St. Petersburg.
This city is formally called Leningrad. I watched the movie about World War II before I visited the city so the thing is, I was pretty much scared to visit there. This city is very beautiful but so many people were dead because of hunger and coldness..... I've never been to Hiroshima, because it scares me, and even though I visited the house of Anne Frank in Amsterdam, I was totally scared and felt so sick and regretted to visit there.
But.... St. Petersburg was très beautiful. Pink, yellow, and water blue, pastel coloured buildings are all beautifully preserved. Yeah, it's normal but there are no remain of sadness and the city is full of life. So my fear was completely meaningless. It is an old European city, once the great queen, Екатерина or Catherine (btw, why the name is so different in English??) had ruled.

One thing I was very much surprised is that the most of the shops are open till 22:00. I mean, come on, it's Europe and shops are open till 22:00!! That is totally great if you know Britain and France. Russia is a Christian country but still the shops are open on Saturday and Sunday. This might be a reason because the country is once a communist country, though.... but for shopping lovers like me, this is totally great!!! : )
The other thing I didn't expect is that there are so many KaΦe, cafes. I didn't know that Russian loves coffee so much!! And the all the cakes I have tried were all yummy!!! (Which reminded me Vienna.)

Yes, St. Petersburg always reminded me some other cities but by seeing some people wearing Russian hat, and the remains of Soviet, the city always reminded me that I'm in Russia. I think It's quite a wired experience that the city continuously reminds me different cities but I guess that is because of Russia's hugeness or uniqueness. Wherever I felt nostalgia, I felt so great. That is the fact.

One thing you cannot miss at St. Petersburg is the Hermitage! The Hermitage has huge collection but some, or I would say many, of their famous paintings were on rental, I guess. I couldn't find the famous da Vinci "Virgin Mary and her son" or the painting of El Greco.
However, their modern art collections such as Matisse, made me think of MOMA and the Tate. After seeing them, I strongly felt I should visit New York and London again.
In the end, I just wish I could keep traveling!
